Snorkel Founder Art Moore Launches His Memoirs At The Rental Show 2016

Atlanta, Georgia (February 22, 2016) Snorkel’s founder, Art Moore, debuts his memoirs at The Rental Show 2016 trade show. He will be in attendance at the show to debut his autobiography, detailing his journey as one of the most respected professionals in the aerial lift industry.

Art Moore founded the Snorkel Company in 1959, introducing a revolutionary firefighting and rescue apparatus.  In 1977, he led Snorkel in developing the “Snorkelift”, a superior aerial work platform. During the 1980’s Snorkel was a leader in the AWP market. In October 2013, Xtreme Manufacturing, owned by Don Ahern, acquired the majority shares of Snorkel. Art retired in 1991, but remains on the Board of Directors at Snorkel.

Art said, “I am honored and excited to be able write this memoir and relive many wonderful memories from my time at Snorkel. I am particularly grateful to Don Ahern for his support in making My Story a reality.”

Art started writing his memoirs in 2003, from what was intended to be a letter to a company that was producing a “die-cast model” of the Snorkel fire truck.  Their brochure had many inaccuracies and he wanted to set the record straight.  Over a period of 11 years, the letter grew to become “My Story”, providing an interesting insight into the founding and workings of a major manufacturing company.

Art’s story takes the reader back to the start of his entrepreneurial career in 1949, when he and childhood friend Ray Pitman partnered up at the Pitman Manufacturing Company. It was there where they developed the “Hydra-Lift” and eventually an industrial “Truck Mounted Aerial Platform” that became “Chicago’s Snorkel No. 1” fire truck. It became so popular that in 1959 Art resigned from Pitman to start his own company, “Snorkel Fire Equipment Company.” The story continues through the development of the company, leading to the eventual sale of Snorkel more than two decades later and the launch of Snorkel’s first “Snorkelift” Aerial Work Platform in 1977.

After retirement, Art and his wife became “snowbirds”, traveling between their home in Pompano Beach, Florida and their summer home in Osage Beach, Missouri on the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks.

Art has been very happily married to his wife Sue for 22 years. He states, “I couldn’t have written my memoirs without her help.”

“My Story” is now available to order at www.artmoorememoirs.com.
